Types of Stocks Episode-2

Preferred vs. Common Stock Made Simple

This Podcast presents the nuances between Common and Preferred Stock within the United States Exchanges.  The important elements are: Preferred stock will not provide the shareholder voting rights.  Preferred stock holders often do not attend the annual meeting because, they cannot vote on any agenda item according to the organization’s Bylaws.  The upside to holding Preferred stock, is that you can expect to gain monthly or annual dividends, as cited in your stock prospectus. (the legal document which states the terms and conditions on which shares and debentures have been issued.)

Preferred stock shareholders receive dividends well before the Common stock holders. There is less risk associated with owning Preferred Stock.

Common Stockholders are shareholders with voting rights, they often attend annual shareholders meetings and can cast their votes electronically or by paper ballot during the annual Stockholder meeting.  Common shareholders shape the Organization with their voting power and number of shares. Unfortunately, they only receive dividends at the discretion of the Organization or Company established Board of Directors approval.  Common stockholders are considered “last served,” when it comes to a company’s assets; simply put, the dividends are not distributed to Common Shareholders until after creditors, bondholders, and Preferred Shareholders have been paid.

We hope this Podcast addresses some of your questions in a simple understandable manner.  Enjoy!

Memorial Day 2020

Memorial Day began as a tribute by former slaves on May, 1, 1865 in Charleston, SC to honor 257 dead Union Soldiers who had been buried in a mass grave in a Confederate prison camp. The freed men and women dug up the bodies of Union Soldiers to honor them with a proper burial as gratitude for sacrificing their lives to free the slaves during the Civil War. After the re-burial, these free men and women held a parade where they marched and sang in celebration. The modern Memorial Day continued with a military order issued in 1868 by Maj. Gen. John A. Logan, the commander in chief of the Grand Army of the Republic, for the annual decoration of war graves.

This podcast is presented as a tribute to the continuance of Memorial Day, as a time to remember and thank our nations veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice. While COVID-19 may prevent us from the physical visitation of the grave site, it does not prevent us from paying tribute in other manners.

2020 Census: An Invitation to Participate

The 2020 Census is your opportunity to have your voice counted.
This Podcast shares information about the importance of the
Census and what it can provide for your community.

April 1: This is Census Day, a key reference date for the 2020 Census—not a deadline. We use this day to determine who is counted and where in the 2020 Census. When you respond, you’ll tell the Census Bureau where you live as of April 1, 2020, and include everyone who usually lives and sleeps in your home. You can respond before or after that date. We encourage you to respond as soon as you can.

April 29 – May 1: The Census Bureau will count people who are experiencing homelessness over these three days. As part of this process, the Census Bureau counts people in shelters, at soup kitchens and mobile food vans, on the streets, and at nonsheltered, outdoor locations such as tent.

Adjustments Due to COVID-19

The 2020 Census is underway and households across America are responding every day. In light of the COVID-19 outbreak, the U.S. Census Bureau has adjusted 2020 Census operations in order to:

  • Protect the health and safety of Census employees and the American public.
  • Implement guidance from federal, state, and local health authorities.
  • Ensure a complete and accurate count of all communities.

The Census Bureau has published the change in an updated document at the following website:

Develop Your Inspirational Vision

Develop Your Inspirational Vision

What is your inspirational vision, what is your inner banner? You must create your inspirational vision. Your personal inspirational vision is viewing your change goals and your end-game in your minds-eye.  It is a skill-set which is not used frequently to its fullest potential nor capacity. We are not taught to envision what we want and methodically map-out the road map to achieve it.

When formalizing a vision statement that reflects your uniqueness keep these elements in mind and use them as a checklist:

  1. Project  in the future.
  2. Focus on success and use the present tense.
  3. Use clear, concise, jargon-free language.
  4. Infuse it with passion and make it inspiring to you.
  5. Align it with your personal values and end-game goals.
  6. Have a plan to communicate your vision statement to anyone who will listen.
  7. Be prepared to commit time and resources to the vision you have establish.

Create A Sense of Urgency

2020 - Year of Personal Change & Goals

Creating a Sense of Urgency

Creating a Sense of Urgency involves you examining what actions you do daily and noting those habits which prevent you from meeting your goals. Once you have made note of those hindrances, develop a personal strategic plan on how best to change the habit.  Keep your plan simple, remember taking a small step,  is one step towards meeting your goal.

Consistency is paramount in creating your sense of urgency. Noting that a sense of urgency is not how fast you accomplish your goal or make your change. Creating a sense of urgency is introducing and sustaining the importance of your Change and goals. If people believe in your sense of urgency, they will believe in your goals.
